ICE Detainee Locator

ICE Online Detainee Locator System is used when a jail release may have been followed by immigration detention. It is not a Sierra County release archive and it does not replace Nevada County jail reports. Use ODLS only when the facts suggest ICE custody, CBP custody lasting more than 48 hours, an immigration hold, or a post-release transfer from county custody.

ICE Custody After Jail Release

A person can be released from the Nevada County jail system for local purposes but remain detained by another authority. ICE ODLS matters in that narrow situation. The research source says ODLS searches current ICE detainees and people in CBP custody for more than 48 hours. It is not a general release-history page, and it does not search minors.

For Sierra County users, ODLS should come after the local release check. First confirm whether the person left Wayne Brown, Truckee, or another local custody path through the Jail Media Report, current-custody list, VINE, court records, or records requests. Then use ODLS if the local record, court information, family notice, or agency information points to immigration detention rather than community release.

How to Use ICE ODLS

Use the ODLS search options carefully and treat any result as an immigration-custody clue, not as a Sierra County release record. If ODLS shows current detention, the person is not free from custody even if the county jail report shows a release from local custody. If ODLS has no result, that does not prove there was never an immigration hold or transfer.

  1. Confirm the local jail release or transfer through Nevada County's Jail Media Report and VINE where possible.
  2. Search ODLS by the available identifiers, following ICE's search options and spelling rules.
  3. Compare name, country information, birth date, and detention location where available.
  4. If the matter involved federal pretrial custody instead of immigration detention, use USMS or federal court records rather than ODLS.
  5. For the Sierra County criminal case, use Sierra County Superior Court records and sheriff records channels.

Current ICE custody and qualifying CBP custody

ODLS is the public immigration detention locator identified in the research. It does not provide a county jail release packet, court disposition, probation term, or state-prison release date. Use it when a local release did not mean return to the community because immigration custody may have followed.

About ICE ODLS

No ICE detention center in Sierra County was identified in the facility map. ICE ODLS is included because an immigration transfer can explain why someone no longer appears on a jail roster but is not located through CDCR or BOP. It is an outside-custody source, not part of Sierra County Sheriff, Nevada County Corrections, or Sierra County Superior Court.

The most accurate release path is sequential. Use the county jail report for the local release, VINE for notifications, the court for case status, BOP for federal prison, CDCR for state prison, and ODLS for immigration detention. Each system answers a different question, and mixing them can create a false conclusion about whether custody truly ended.

Sierra ICE Transfer Chain

An immigration transfer can make a release look confusing. The local jail record may show that the person was released from the Nevada County jail system, while the practical result was movement to another custody agency. ODLS is useful only after the local sources suggest that kind of transfer. The local sources are still important because they show the date, agency, charge context, court case number, and whether the person was marked released or still in custody on the county report.

When an ICE question follows a Sierra County arrest, keep the systems separate. Sierra County Sheriff records and Sierra Superior Court records document the local law-enforcement and court case. Nevada County reports document the public jail-service trail. ICE ODLS documents current immigration detention and qualifying CBP custody. BOP documents federal prison, which is different from immigration detention. CDCR documents California state prison. Each source can be correct while answering a different part of the same timeline.

ODLS Limits for Sierra Cases

ODLS is current-custody oriented. It is not a 24-hour release list, 72-hour release list, mugshot source, or long-term archive for Sierra County arrests. If a public jail record has aged out of the 30-day Nevada County report window, the better follow-up is a court request, a records request, or the receiving federal or state system identified by the case facts. Keep copies of dates and source names because later checks may use different identifiers. When ODLS is silent, return to the jail, court, and records channels before drawing a final conclusion.

Final Sierra Record Check

Before closing a release search, compare the page source with the county record trail. Sierra County arrests can pass through a Downieville hold, Nevada County jail service, VINE notice, Sierra County Superior Court, and then a supervision or transfer system. The right source is the one that controlled the person at that moment. A jail report confirms jail status. A court record explains the case. A supervision office explains post-release terms. A state, federal, or immigration locator explains custody outside the county jail path.

Keep a simple timeline with the arrest date, booking date, release or transfer date, agency name, court case number, and source checked. If a name disappears from a current-custody list, verify it against the release-capable report or a records request before treating it as final. If a release entry appears, check whether the case continued in court or moved to another agency. This method keeps Sierra County release research tied to the documents found in the research rather than to assumptions.
